Asset Jam Drill
Take Stock.
Use when you want to make the most out of resources already available to you.
Asset Jam is a drill we use to create a visual inventory of all existing resources that are currently available to us to apply to our solution. By sourcing and documenting these assets together as a group we can quickly see what we’ve got to work with today, how we might tap into these resources, and who or what can help make the connections. Also, who doesn’t like a drill with the word “Jam” in it?
Outcomes
Inventory of resources with which to solve
Recognition that there is much more to work with
Materials
Sharpies
Post-its
Butcher paper
Blue tape
Tools
Asset Jam Poster
Instructions
Step 1
Introduce the Asset Jam Drill.
Step 2
Have Wrong Thinkers place their new challenge, moonshot, or emerging solution (depending on your focus) at the center of their Asset Jam Poster.
Step 3
Have teams use Post-its to identify the resources currently available to solve with.
Step 4
[Optional]
Use two colors of Post-its to distinguish between currently available resources and additional resources that might be required.
Step 5
[Optional]
The Big Jam: Have teams rotate to the team location to their right. Ask one Wrong Thinker per team to stay behind to explain their idea(s) to other teams as they rotate through and build on available (and required) assets. Rotate teams every 60 seconds until they are back to their team home.
Tips
Asset Jam can also be run as a group drill. We have used large sheets of butcher paper to create a giant Asset Jam Poster by hand.
